Ask me anything

Everything you were about to DM me.

The questions I get most — in my chair, in my comments, and in my inbox. If yours isn’t here, send it anyway. I answer.

How far in advance should I book?

For regular color appointments, 2–4 weeks out is the sweet spot. For big transformations — custom color, corrections, extension installs, event hair — give me 4–6 weeks so we have time for a consultation first and I can block enough hours to do it right. I’m in the studio Wednesday through Saturday, and Saturdays go first, so book those early. Hoping for something sooner? Grab a spot anyway and message me — cancellations happen.

I found you on TikTok. Are you taking new clients?

Yes! New clients are very welcome — a huge part of my chair found me through TikTok (@beautybykaylamac). Book online, and if you’re new to me, we’ll talk through your hair goals and history before we commit to a plan. Tell me which video brought you in. I love knowing.

Where are you located?

I’m at Sola Salon Studios, Suite 20, Auburn, CA 95603 — Placer County, about 35 minutes northeast of Sacramento. If you’re searching “hairstylist near Auburn” or driving in from Roseville, Rocklin, Grass Valley, or anywhere in the Sacramento area, I’m an easy trip up I-80. Hours are Wednesday–Saturday, 9am–5pm, and you can text me at (530) 613-0189 if you get lost in the Sola hallway (everyone does once).

Can you fix box dye?

Usually, yes — and I promise there’s no judgment, but I do need total honesty about what’s on your hair. Box dye lifts differently than professional color, and layers of it can take more than one session to correct safely. Box-dye rescues book as a custom color/color correction: we consult first, I tell you straight what’s possible today, what needs a second visit, and what it’ll cost. What I won’t do is fry your hair to rush a result.

How long does a blonding appointment take?

Plan on about 4 hours for a partial foil and 5 for a full foil — that includes your K18 treatment, toner, trim, and style, so you leave completely finished. A mini foil (up to 10 foils) runs about 2.5 hours, and full-day custom color is exactly what it sounds like. Good blonde takes time; bring snacks and a phone charger and settle in.

How much do extensions cost?

Here are the real numbers: tape-in installs are $160 flat, sew-in wefts are $80 per row, and partial-head I-tips are $100. The hair itself is a separate cost, because it’s ordered custom for your color and length. That’s why extensions start with a free consultation — we color-match, plan your rows, and I quote your true total (hair + install + your 6–8 week maintenance schedule) before you commit to anything. Move-ups run from $60 for sew-ins and $160 for tape-ins.

Will extensions damage my hair?

Not when they’re installed and maintained correctly — that’s exactly what extension certification is for. Tape-in, sew-in weft, and I-tip methods all distribute weight so your natural hair isn’t stressed strand by strand, and move-up appointments every 6–8 weeks keep everything healthy. What causes damage is skipping maintenance or DIY removal. Follow the plan and your natural hair stays happy underneath.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Reschedule or cancel with at least 48 hours’ notice and we’re totally fine. Inside 48 hours there’s a 50% service charge, and no-shows are charged the full service — big appointments block off half my day, and an empty chair can’t be refilled last-minute. That said: if you’re sick or it’s a genuine emergency, just tell me. I’d always rather you stay home and reschedule than power through and get us both sick.

How can I pay?

Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay, cash, or card — your pick. Cards add a 3% processing fee, so the money apps or cash save you a little.

What should I do before my appointment?

Come with day-old hair (a little natural oil is fine — no fresh product-heavy blowouts, no need to scrub it squeaky clean either), wear a comfy top that isn’t precious, and bring inspo pics. Plural. The more screenshots you bring, the closer we land to exactly what’s in your head.

How does shipping work for the Kayla Mac products?

Every order ships direct from the lab to your door in 8–10 days — products are made fresh per order rather than sitting in a warehouse. You’ll get a tracking email as soon as it ships. It’s a little slower than two-day shipping, and worth it. If anything arrives wrong or damaged, email me and I’ll make it right.

What if I don’t love my hair?

Tell me — seriously. I don’t do refunds, but here’s my actual policy, in my own words: if you’re unsatisfied with your hair, I will gladly get you back in and fit your vision, free of charge. Hair is a relationship, and I’d always rather fix something than have you quietly unhappy.

Question answered? Good. Now the fun part.

Grab a spot and bring your inspo pics — I love inspo pics.
