Hi, it’s me
The girl behind the before-and-afters.
Hi beautiful! I’m Kayla MacArthur — the stylist behind Beauty by Kayla Mac and the person on the other side of those transformation videos. My chair is at Sola Salon Studios in Auburn, CA, and my favorite thing in the world is the moment someone sees their after for the first time.

The short version
I’ve loved doing hair since I was a little girl — this was never a backup plan. I graduated from Hoss Lee Academy, got certified in extensions, and I’m still taking new classes all the time, because color techniques evolve fast and I want my hands on the newest ones before they hit your feed. Two years into the industry, that studying paid off in the best way: I’m a Redken Pro Gloss Awards Winner for 2025. (Yes, I’m still not over it.)
These days I do three things on repeat: blondes, lived-in looks, and extensions. Basically: brighter, lower-maintenance, or longer — sometimes all three in one sitting.
Why blondes and lived-in color?
Because they’re honest. A great blonde can’t hide behind filters — it’s either healthy, dimensional, and glowy, or it isn’t. That’s why every foil service in my chair includes K18: the healthy-hair part isn’t optional. And lived-in color is my love letter to real life — old money blonde, soft root taps, glosses that grow out like a choice instead of a countdown. You shouldn’t need an appointment every four weeks for your hair to look intentional.
And when someone wants to go big — two rows of 24-inch extensions, a full color flip, that pink she’s been screenshotting for a year? Great day at work.
The TikTok thing
I started posting my transformations on TikTok, and somewhere along the way 62,000 of you showed up to watch. Wild. What I love most is that it keeps me honest — every video is a real client, real light, no tricks. When you book with me, you already know exactly what my work looks like, because you’ve been watching it. People drive in from all over the Sacramento area because of one video, and that never stops being surreal.
Some of my favorite appointments to film (and to do): big blonde comebacks, first extension installs, and mother-daughter days — when a mom and daughter book together, that’s my favorite day on the books.
What my chair is really about
Here’s the part that matters more than any award: I pride myself on creating a safe space for everyone. Whoever you are, however you get here, you’re welcome in my chair. My real goal is bigger than good hair — it’s lifelong friendships, and you walking out feeling like your most confident self. The hair is just how we get there.
Come sit in my chair.
If you’ve made it this far, we should probably do your hair. Wed–Sat at Sola Salon Studios, Suite 20, Auburn — bring your inspo pics, I love inspo pics.
